About JT
Hi, I’m Janet Testaz ( or JT or Jano ), and this is my story.
On a Sunday morning in 2010 my life changed forever. I had been feeling a little unwell for a few days, but really didn’t think much of it.
That’s until I woke one morning with pain unlike anything I had ever experienced.
I was rushed to Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital and in the days that followed doctors found a malignant tumour in my right kidney.
I met with a team of Australia’s best surgeons to discuss my options. There really were none. The kidney had to go. And I was only 26 years old.
The doctors looking after me were very clear about the path I needed to take moving forward. However, when I pressed them for details they became vague.
Why this was happening to me? What had I done wrong? And most important of all; what would life be like with just one kidney?
In the days following my surgery I remember that I asked one of the surgeons for information on what I could eat and drink, given that I was now missing a vital organ! He just told me to “eat as normal”.
Just “eat as normal”? Well, what is “normal”?
I decided to find out.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Looking back now, I can see how toxic my party-hard lifestyle had become. I was completely disconnected from my heart, and too busy to notice.
I might have been unaware but my body wasn’t.
The message was pretty loud and clear; it was time to make some changes, and to find a new path. I had to reassess my life and ask myself a really tough question: How did I get myself into this pickle of a mess?
I opted not to have chemotherapy. As a result, post-surgery, it was really up to me to take charge of my own health. I was discharged and sent on my way with instructions to return for sporadic check-ups throughout the year. I felt like just another number in the system. Not one person ever asked me what my life was like before I got cancer. They just assumed I was healthy because I could fit into a size eight!
I had two options. I could do nothing and hope the cancer didn’t return; or I could take action.
I decided to take action and immediately began to research ways to improve my health and heal my soul. I had found my new path.
It has been a journey of self-discovery and change. I am on a constant and never ending quest for health and wellness. I have had to learn how to love myself, which feels amazing. I have also learned when and how to press the pause button.
Did you know that our bodies are built to heal themselves? I didn’t, but it’s true. It’s our job to feed and nurture our bodies in a way that allows them to function properly. When done correctly, the body’s capacity to heal is astounding.
I have also rediscovered my spirituality. I always knew, but had forgotten, how closely connected to mind, spirit and soul the body is. Reconnecting with my soul has been the single biggest achievement of my journey to date. I have reconnected with my authentic self.
In my heart of hearts I know my illness is closely linked to negative self-beliefs and pent up emotion. I was completely unequipped to handle stress. I had negative energy circulating inside of me and my body was simply worn out. When we disconnect our mind from our soul our lives become unbalanced.
Changing my awareness really has made all the difference; reminding myself that we are more than just flesh and bones and, opening my mind to the fact that there are many things which I/we still do not know. There is always something new to learn.
Our bodies are so beautifully designed and health goes far beyond modern-day science. Health is more than what we eat and how we exercise. It’s the whole picture. Everything is connected.
By reconnecting with my soul and opening my awareness to a state of ‘interconnectedness,’ I have opened myself up to infinite possibility. If I am connected to my heart then the decisions that were once difficult in my life are effortless.
This interconnectedness brings with it a passion for the environment and the animals with which we share our world. Our environment has a massive impact on our health. We must re-learn how to connect with the earth.
I believe this is made possible if we are conscious of what we eat and put on our skin. By asking ourselves where the products we consume come from, we not only take a giant step toward improved health, we also protect our planet.
My mission is to share my journey with others. In particular, those of you dealing with your own internal struggle. If you’re still reading this, then that’s probably you.
I want to help you reconnect with life; to become soulfully healthy. I want to show you how important it is to love yourself in a way that is true and right. I want to help you to reconnect to the earth. If you reconnect with your authentic self you will learn to listen to your heart and to make the right decision when life throws a wobbly your way!
I want you to fall in love with yourself and your body so that they can give back to this amazing earth on which we live.
I want to share my journey with the world so that others might be inspired to join me.
